First Annual Fishing Derby
May 19th, 2001

The fishing derby that we held on May 19th, 2001 was a great success. The Division of Wildlife had 6 of its people there to help and teach the children how to tie knots, identify types of fish, and other basic information such as how to cast. We had 26 children show up, including siblings. There were also many adults and lots of volunteers. Division of Wildlife gave us the Ok to hold the fishing derby on the Colorado Free Fishing Day, so we did not have to worry about obtaining licenses. We had hot dogs, chips, apples, cookies, and drinks for everyone.

The West Metro Fire Department showed up with their pump truck per our request and let the children climb on and sit in the truck. The children were allowed to use the headphones to talk to each other. This was a big hit. We also had YourRiver.com come and they made laminated luggage tags. The tags have a picture of a fish on one side and the personalized information on the other. These tags were given to anyone who wished to have one. We think that all had a good time. About a week after the event, we had a family call and thank us for a great time.

We would like to extend special thanks to Jerrie McKee of the Division of Wildlife for all her hard work and help in making the event a success.
