Fourth Annual Fishing Derby
2004

Our fourth annual fishing derby proved once again to be a success! The weather was beautiful and a few more fish were caught this year than in the pervious years. In attendance were the children and their families, Division of Wildlife and their volunteers, who provided fishing poles and bait for each child along with informational fishing clinics to teach the children about fish, knot tying and fishing. New this year was a table of animal tracks, furs and a laser shooting range set up by the Division of Wildlife so the children could learn more about wild animals. Members from the West Metro Trout Unlimited brought their chuck wagon and took charge of the cooking for us once again, they also had volunteers help the children with fishing and one gentleman taught fly tying.

Poppy the clown was the expert face painter for the children. US Foods graciously donated food and snacks this year. We had everything from fresh fruit to ice cream which was a big hit with the children and their families. We had a tent full of prizes for each child to take home along with goodies bags filled to the brim. Some kids fishing poles and a CD with computer games was donated on a combined effort through South Bend and The Sportsmen's Warehouse. We would like to thank all the volunteers, organizations and people who help make this event the success that it is. We are already looking forward to next years fishing derby.
