Fishing Derby
June 3, 2006
This was another successful event. We had over 56 children attend with their families. The Colorado Division of Wildlife set up fishing clinics to teach the children about fishing, and provided rods and reels to each child to use and take home, they also brought their dart trailer to let the children shoot a rifle at the simulated targets.
Denver West trout Unlimited participated and helped cook and fish, West Metro Fire Dept. was able to attend and provided plenty of help and let the children see their trucks and equipment, The Sportsmen's Warehouse in Aurora provided all the bait and volunteers to help, Fishpond donated their blue river chest packs for each child to keep, US Food Service donated food including ice cream which was once again a big hit since the weather was hot.
Our expert clown was Brad Johnson who donated his time making balloon art, new this year was an archery range set up and manned by The Colorado Bowhunters Association. For many of the children this was their first opportunity to shoot a bow and they enjoyed it. The fish cooperated and fish of all sizes and types were caught. Everyone who wanted to catch a fish did. Thanks to all the great volunteers and people who helped make this another successful fishing derby for the children and their families.
