Fishing Derby
June 4, 2011
The 12th Annual Fishing Derby, held on Saturday, June 4, 2011, was a
very successful day. There were over 134 children and their parents,
plus over 100 volunteers, which brought total attendance to approximately 400 people!
The lake had been recently stocked and children were all smiles and giggles as many trout, bluegills, and bass
were caught and released that day.
The following groups and organizations donated products or volunteered at the Fishing Derby:
Dreyers Ice Cream,
Pepperidge Farm,
Colorado Division of Wildlife,
Colorado Bowhunter Association,
American Bowmen,
West Metro Fire Department,
Frito Lay,,
Denver West Trout Unlimited,
Tightline Outfitterss,
Todd Wacker, Kiwanis Club of Alameda West,
Saunders Construction,
Carmine Lonardo's Meat Market,
Rocky Mountain Sunscreen,
Safeway Area Managers,
Discount Fishing,
K.A.T. Vending,
Colorado Golf & Turf,
Colorado State Patrol,
Star Wars characters, Mickey Mouse and Pooh Bear made an appearance at this year's Derby.
We had a 6 person golf cart to provide transportation from the parking area to the lake.
Some of the wonderful services these groups provided that day:
The Colorado Division of Wildlife set up fishing clinics to
teach the children about fishing,provided rods and reels for each child to use and take home.
Denver West Trout Unlimited participated and helped
by cooking lunch for everyone, as well as assisting kids with catching fish.
Tightline Outfitters participated and brought their
pro fishing boat to let the kids check it out.
West Metro Fire Department provided plenty of help
to the children fishing. As well as letting children check out their
fire truck and equipment.
The Colorado State Partol provided an officer to pass
out small gifts to the children.
Discount Fishing provided bait.
The Colorado Bowhunter’s Association and the American
Bowmen set up and staffed an archery range.
Carmine Lonardo's Meat Market provided the meat and
K.A.T. vending donated drinks.
Dreyer’s Ice Cream came with their dipping station
full of ice cream treats for everyone to enjoy during the day.
Colorado Golf & Turf donated a 6-passenger golf car
to transport families from the parking lot to the fishing derby
entrance.
Also attending were Melissa Clarke, a face painter;
Brad Jackson, who did caricatures of the children.
